Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Celebrates 60th Jubilee
In addition to the list of jubilees happening throughout the island, the parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church joins the honored ranks of churches which have survived immense challenges and economic woes.
The Toto church celebrates 60 years as a Catholic community and presence in the tri-village of Mongmong-Toto-Maite. While a mission under the Agana parish in the early years, in 1948-49, the decision to bestow the title of parish and church in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was welcomed by its faithful followers. Many local clergy, such as Msgr. Brigido Arroyo, Msgr. David I.A. Quitugua, and the late Fr. Juan Camacho are known as the pioneer clergy of the parish. In fact, the people refer to Toto parish as the training ground for clergy in their formative years.
In this simple and humble celebration, the people of Toto invite all to attend the Jubilee Mass 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11. The guest presider will be Msgr. Brigido Arroyo, pastor of St. Anthony\'s Church, Tamuning. Msgr. Arroyo served the parish in 1963-64 and 1970-75.
The faithful of Toto Parish also invite everyone to join them at a dinner banquet at the Hilton Hotel. The banquet is a fundraiser event to assist the building fund efforts. For a complete history of the parish, please visit the parish website at ihomguam.com or click HERE.

Toto\'s Got Talent
The Immaculate Heart of Mary - Toto Parish will sponsor the first ever "Battle of the Bands: Rock Band Style" at 7:30 p.m., June 6, in the Social Hall.

Archbishop to celebrate 25th Jubilee Feb. 19-21
The Archdiocese of Agana will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron’s Episcopal ordination Feb. 19 to 21.
The Archbishop was ordained a bishop at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral 25 years ago on Feb. 19, 1984. There will be several events and Masses this month but the major islandwide celebration will be the Archbishop’s Mass of Thanksgiving 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica.
Archbishop Apuron is also making the jubilee a time to celebrate other joyful aspects of the Church, including vocations and the men and women who have committed themselves to serving God in priestly and religious callings. The Archdiocese will ordain four seminarians to the diaconate 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19. Mass for vocations to the diaconate, priesthood and consecrated life will also be held 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.
All jubilee Masses will be celebrated at the Cathedral-Basilica. KUAM-TV will air the Masses live on television and will also bring them to audiences worldwide via streaming Internet.

On Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, as an entire Archdiocese, we will assemble at the four corners of the ITC intersection in Tamuning to publicly demonstrate and show our united stand against ABORTION. This is the 36th anniversary of ROE V. WADE, the Supreme Court decision legalizing this heinous act of killing human beings in the womb.
Please encourage your parishioners, your students and their families, your fellow members and other interested parties to participate in this activity. We will commence our program at exactly 4:00 P.M., so please be at your designated locations by 3:30 P.M. and. . .
Again, I ask that the four Monsignori be dressed in their white soutane with the purple sash and each one stand on one of the four corners to be visible to those passing by.
Please, Fathers, Deacons, Brothers and Sisters, let us show our solidarity in standing against ABORTION especially after our newly elected President vows to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. We need to bring awareness to at least on the local level of the evils of abortion.
National Human Trafficking Awareness Day
Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, a day for coming together as a community of believers to raise our voices against the terrible crime of human trafficking.
Human trafficking is “the recruitment, transportation, harboring, or receipt of people for the purpose of exploitation” (U.S. State Department). Human trafficking has become tied for the 2nd largest criminal activity, behind drug and gun trafficking around the world. It is estimated that somewhere between 600,000 to 800,000 men, women and children are trafficked across international borders annually.
Across the United States, churches and organizations will be participating in recognition of this day. Locally, Guam’s human trafficking task force has organized many activities in which the community may participate and become informed.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT BY ARCHBISHOP APURON
PLEASE SHOW SUPPORT FOR OUR UNBORN
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
One of the most important things we can and must do as children of God is to speak up. show support for and protect those who are the most vulnerable among us.
We all have an opportunity to stand on behalf of unborn children next week.
The 290 Guam Legislature is expected to go into session 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17. While it is not guaranteed, there is a good chance that Bill 374 - the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban of 2008 -- will come up for a vote.
Either way, as Lina\'la Esperansa members stress- WE NEED TO BE THERE.
I encourage members of our Catholic Church - young and old - who are able to be at the Legislature to do so in order to show our support for this important legislation, which would ban the horrific procedure known as partial-birth abortion.
Priests and pastors, please encourage your youth and parishioners at Masses and CCD classes to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide legislators and visit the Legislature if possible. Principals and teachers, please do the same. It would be good to have signs showing love and support for our unborn. As always, we should express ourselves in a way that upholds the dignity and respect of the Lord and our Church.
